Cherry blossom (Sakura) Oil on canvas.
This was my second oil painting made Spring 2018. My love for cherry blossoms (Sakura) started when I lived in Japan. After the long cold winter, cherry blossoms covered every inch of Japan signaling the coming of spring and warmer weather. They always bloom in March/April, right when people start their new jobs and children start the school year. By far, my favorite season in Japan.

A walking path with stars to somewhere surrounded with hydrangeas and lush greenery.
I made this painting with thoughts of warmth and summer in mind. This is a painting that started as something completely different and I just let the painting tell me where it wanted to go. This painting reminds me of a long hike on a summer day where the paths are surrounded by hydrangeas and it leads to… somewhere.

One of the things I love to practice when I just want a short art session is watercolor flowers. I love being given creative ideas of different flowers, and discovering the best way to paint them. I love the blues of the Bachelor’s Button and the softness and simplicity of this painting.

Inspired by the wonderfully changing colors during the beginning of October at the Dow Garden’s Whiting Forest, I just had to paint as soon as I saw this stunning view. This painting reminds me of the warmth and happiness I felt on that beautiful fall day.

This painting was inspired by an amazing photo that my aunt took and allowed me to paint. She was driving along Lake Michigan going to Petoskey State Park when this stunning sunset stopped her in her tracks. When I saw the photo I knew I needed to paint my own version. This scene reminds me of the true beauty that I can see in my state and makes me feel like I’m listening to Tim Allen on the Pure Michigan commercial. Thus, Pier Michigan.

Honorable mention winner at the Dearborn Artist Society Fall Showcase .
A maple leaf resting peacefully on cement.
I made this painting fall of 2018. Fall is my favorite season in Michigan, As soon as the crisp air hits my nose after a sweltering summer, I am full of anticipation and excitement! Come August I plan my entire fall because I don’t want to miss a thing, cider mills, hay rides, fall hikes, pumpkin spice lattes, and everything else that screams fall.
It all comes in a flash and ends just as quickly. That’s why I painted the perfect maple leaf on the cement ground. Maybe it’s the first day of fall, maybe it’s the last, but here it will always sit reminding me of the joy fall brings.

“There’s coffee in that nebula,” Captain Janeway from Star Trek Voyager.
I love doing space art in watercolor, so I decided to give it a try in oil. Inspired by Janeway and her love of coffee I painted what the nebula just might look like. As my first space oil, there was a lot of things I wanted to try. I wanted to bring light and dark through the colors, I wanted it to look less cloudy and more mysterious. I personally love the rainbow of colors as I feel like that is what I could see in a nebula.

Abstract watercolor galaxy in deep space.
By far my favorite abstract painting of a galaxy. Sometimes when I don’t know what to paint, I just start painting clouds that turn into galaxies until they make something magical.

Two things I love, Detroit and pink. This painting was made with the beautiful pink and purple sunsets in mind. I wanted to show the beauty of Detroit and my favorite colors. When the light hits this painting different times of the day, different highlights are visible, making it feel like the painting is setting with the sun.

Sometimes we are feeling blue? When I made this I was feeling purple. I wanted to make a big purple painting, full of life and color. I’m happy it turned out like it did. The colors are amazing and every time I see it in a different light it’s a new color.

The sunset on Windmill Island in Holland, Michigan. The 250+ year old windmill De Zwaan is painted in this picture. I personally love the pinks and purples in this sunset, the dance of colors make me feel like it’s a playful summer evening.

Peonies are one of my favorite spring flowers. Big fluffy pink flowers that come right when spring begins. They smell wonderful and as they sit in my home the bloom beautifully. So it felt only appropriate that I painted it for the challenge “My Favorites.” I love how simple it is and how it really just pops out at you.

Custom work where the patron wanted their personal drum painted with whatever inspired me. I wanted to preserve the texture and beauty of the drum skin and felt the best way was to make it into a moon. I felt the drum’s beat was like the bold bright full moon that cuts through everything else.

Hygge, which means cozy, is a collection of pieces that bring warmth and coziness to the heart. The collection was made to send warm greetings to others and hopefully for future items like greeting cards.

What a beautiful night! Made from pure imagination City Sky is a painting truly from the heart. As quarantine started in 2020 I began this painting as a way to help through the loneliest times. I imagined the rooftops of the cities, everyone having their own individual rooftop parties and enjoying the magic of the northern lights. One of my favorites with the bold colors and bright design, it left my grasp as soon as it was finished as it quickly found a loving home.

My favorite time of year in Japan is always cherry blossom season and all the many traditions that come with it. One of my truly favorite moments is when the sun has set and the lanterns are lit, creating a magical view of the cherry blossoms. There is nothing that compares to the pinkish purple glow, nothing that warms the heart more and makes you feel like you are walking into a wonderland.
Painting this filled my heart with joy, as if I was right there again, under the trees, taking in that moment that is impossible to capture with a camera.

Commissioned by a dear friend, this was on of the most challenging and rewarding paintings I have made. The challenge was not just any acrylic painting, but a shiny acrylic painting. The canvas was a special metallic canvas. Every paint had a form of mica mixed into it. The reward? When the sun touches this painting it dances in the light. All four seasons show their true beauty. The sunflowers shine bright.
Sometimes as we are walking along the road of life there are obstacles in our way. Ones that feel impossible to go around. We focus and fret on how to get around it, but we need to take a moment and look at that obstacle for what it truly is, a thing of beauty. Something to learn and grow with. And along that path there will always be encouragement from the sunflowers in our lives.
